I’ve never seen anything like this before. It happened during a high school basketball game between Rhinebeck and SS Seward. Did that guy really mean to slam the ball onto his opponent’s head for a shot? It’s almost as unbelievable as this throw:

The Strangest Laws That Ever Existed

Posted By Ben Goulding, 15 February, 2010 | permalink

When I heard that it is illegal to chain an alligator to a fire hydrant in the state of Michigan, it got me thinking… what other unusual laws are there around the world? Here are a few I thought you might like.

  • Alaska law says that you can’t look at a moose from an airplane.
  • In Athens, Greece, a driver’s license can be lifted by the law if the driver is deemed either ‘poorly dressed’ or ‘unbathed’.
  • In Ohio it is illegal to get a fish drunk.
  • In Tennessee, it is against the law to drive a car while sleeping.
  • On the island of Jersey it’s against the law for a man to knit during the fishing season.
  • In Miami, it is forbidden to imitate an animal
  • In England, it is illegal to die in the Houses of Parliament
  • In Quebec, Canada, an old law states that margarine must be a different colour from butter.
  • In Hong Kong, a woman can kill her husband if he has cheated on her. She must use her bare hand though.
  • It is illegal to sell an ET doll in France.
  • If a whale is found on the British coast, the King can claim the head and the Queen has a legal right to the tail
  • Pregnant women in the UK are allowed to relieve themselves anywhere they want.
  • In New York, it is against the law for a blind person to drive an automobile.
  • In Alabama it is illegal to drive while blindfolded.

Woman Calls Cops On Herself For Drink Driving

Posted By Ben Goulding, 3 November, 2009 | permalink

Mary StreyMary Strey is a very honest woman … or maybe just an extremely drunk one. She called police in Clark County, Wisconsin to let them know that she was driving whilst intoxicated.

“Somebody’s really drunk driving down Granton Road,” she told the 911 dispatcher.

The dispatcher asked if Strey was behind the drunk driver, to which she replied “No, I am them.”

The dispatcher asked, “Okay, so you’re calling to report you’re driving drunk?”

“Yes,” Strey said.

The dispatcher told Strey to pull her vehicle over, and she complied. She waited for a deputy to arrive with her hazard lights flashing. According to the police report, Strey failed field sobriety tests, and a preliminary breath test showed she had a blood alcohol content of .19, more than twice the legal limit to drive.

She’s due in court in December, facing charges of first offense operating under the influence.

Stupid Criminals Caught Wearing Permanent Marker Disguise

Posted By Ben Goulding, 30 October, 2009 | permalink

black-marker-faces

When God was handing out brains, these guys were definitely at the end of the queue. They came up with the idea of scribbling on their faces with permanent marker to protect their identities when they tried to rob a man’s house in Carroll, Iowa.

Police received a call Friday night that two men with hooded sweatshirts and painted faces had tried to break into a man’s home in Carroll, Iowa.
When police stopped a vehicle matching the caller’s description blocks away, they were stunned by the men’s disguises.
There were no ski masks or stockings pulled over their heads; instead, Matthew Allan McNelly, 23, and Joey Lee Miller, 20, streaked their faces with permanent black marker.

Peter Hitchener, a news anchorman, remains unflappable when a ‘giant’ seagull walks behind him during a bulletin in Australia.

The timing could not have been worse as Hitchener was trying read a story about organised crime in the city.

“I was reading away and it was a serious story, and I suddenly thought ‘Oh my gosh, that seagull’s back again’, because we had a bit of a problem last night,” Hitchener told a radio station afterwards.

He explained that the seagull had appeared moments before the programme went on air, alarming the producers.

“About 50 seconds to six o’clock this seagull arrived and started pecking at the camera and it had the beadiest huge eyes you’ve ever seen in your life.”

Cristiano Ronaldo Sings… Badly

Posted By Ben Goulding, 22 October, 2009 | permalink

(Youtube Link)

Here’s soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo, singing a 19th century Cuban Bolero ballad called Amor Mío — translated in English as My Love — for a television advert for Portuguese bank Banco Espírito Santo.

Unfortunately for him, the recording got leaked onto the internet and now everyone knows he’s about as cheesy as he is wealthy, and as tone-deaf as, well, something that’s tone deaf.

Maybe stick to the soccer, Ronnie. You’re better at that.
