When Hadjuk Split played arch-rivals Lokomotiva at the weekend, there was a lot at stake. They were in a tussle for the Europa League spots in the Croatian league. It was a shame therefore, when Hadjuk Split midfielder Goran Rubil scored what was probably the greatest goal of his career… into his own net. His mistake cost them the game which they ended up losing 2-1.

I’ve never seen anything like this before. It happened during a high school basketball game between Rhinebeck and SS Seward. Did that guy really mean to slam the ball onto his opponent’s head for a shot? It’s almost as unbelievable as this throw:

The water utility in Edmonton, EPCOR, published the most incredible graph of water consumption last week. The graph compares and contrasts water consumption on a normal day in Edmonton (Feb 27th) and the day of the gold medal hockey match between the USA and Canada (Feb 28th).

With 80% of Canadians watching the game, they all used water at the same time during different periods of the day. Who doesn’t go to the bathroom during the break anyway?

Seth was due to attempt the stunt at 9:30am near Australia’s Sydney Harbour, but instead he took off at 8:45am, and landed an incredible 175ft (53.34m) jump on his Harley-Davidson XR1200. However, only around a third of the media were in attendance at this early stage, so he was forced to do it again, and this time he went even further – an unbelievable 183.7ft (56m) to smash the previous record, which had stood for 11 years, by more than 25 feet.

Ronnie Coleman holds the record of eight straight wins as Mr. Olympia, and is arguably the greatest bodybuilder of all time. Coleman also holds the record for most wins as an IFBB professional with 26 wins. And all of this is from an accounting graduate!

#5 Greg Kovacs – Weighs over 400lbs

Not only is Kovacs tall at 6′4″, but he is also extremely heavy. He is one of the few bodybuilders to allegedly weigh over 400 pounds. On top of that he has a 70″ chest and 25.5″ arms off-season.

Germany’s Patrick Beckert was fourth on the list of replacement entrants for the men’s 1,000-meter competition, and after two-time gold medallist Enrico Fabris withdrew from Wednesday’s race an hour before it was due to start, organizers began to frantically get hold of the 19 year old.

Unfortunately, by the time Beckert had noticed one of the many missed calls on his phone, there was only 17 minutes left until the race was scheduled to begin. This wasn’t enough time for him to reach the the Oval from the Olympic village, so his place was forfeited. Talk about bad luck.

Tiger Woods’ sex scandal has just landed himself on a PETA billboard. Yes, that’s right, PETA.

The animal rights group will launch the ad, featuring Tiger Woods, on billboards in two weeks. The golfer’s photograph will bear the tagline, “Too Much Sex Can Be a Bad Thing”. Underneath the heading, it reads “…for little tigers too. Help keep your cats (and dogs) out of trouble: Always spay or neuter!”

The organization has not got Tiger’s blessing in publishing the ad nor it has a local advertiser to put up the billboard in. “It’s a fun, tongue-in-cheek approach. We hope these billboard companies will understand,” Virginia Fort who worked on the project said. The plan is to erect the ad in Windermere the soonest being in two weeks.

Bolt won’t keep the cheetah as a regular pet though, he’s paid $13,700 to formally adopt the cub, and $3,000 a year for Lighting Bolt to be cared for and raised at an animal orphanage in Nairobi.

Bolt, who was on a four-day visit to Kenya, said Friday he was looking forward to seeing Kenya’s diverse wildlife, but was scared of meeting lions.
He nearly ran away when asked Monday to pet a fully grown cheetah named Sharon for a photo shoot with Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga. Bolt had Zeitz stand in for him, until he saw that Sharon seemed harmless.

The world record holder appeared more comfortable later while handling his baby cheetah, which was the size of a fully grown domestic cat. He cradled the fuzzy-headed cub while feeding it bottled milk as cameramen snapped away.

When asked if he was afraid of cheetahs, Bolt said: “Yes, I was, but not anymore.”

Lighting Bolt is among three cubs rescued by KWS officials after their mother abandoned them in a game park.

A bat which appeared late in the first quarter of the San Antonio Spurs-Sacramento Kings game, teased players and officials, forcing play to be stopped. The bat evaded capture, and play continued. Later in the game Manu Ginobili had finally had enough and showed the crowd another one of his many talents, catching the bat in mid-flight.

Here’s soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo, singing a 19th century Cuban Bolero ballad called Amor Mío — translated in English as My Love — for a television advert for Portuguese bank Banco Espírito Santo.

Unfortunately for him, the recording got leaked onto the internet and now everyone knows he’s about as cheesy as he is wealthy, and as tone-deaf as, well, something that’s tone deaf.

Maybe stick to the soccer, Ronnie. You’re better at that.

Here’s Gay Wilkinson, who is the world champion anvil shooter. He can shoot 100lb anvils, over 100 feet in the air and claims his record is 200 feet.

Anvil shooting involves placing one anvil upside-down on the ground, filling a brick-shaped cavity in its underside with black powder, and then carefully – with a thick paper patch to prevent sparks – placing another on top of it.

Then the anvil-shooter lights the fuse and runs as fast as he can out of the blast radius.

Could anvil shooting be the strangest sport in the world?

Developed by Bojan Nemec, from the Jožef Stefan Institute in Slovenia, this skiing robot can navigate autonomously using a video camera and various other sensors.

The laptop control center plans the robot’s trajectory, using a camera to measure its distance from the race gates. Gyros and force sensors help the bot stay stabilized on the slopes.

The robot carries a GPS unit, but it’s used to help measure speed, not for trajectory planning. That makes sense, if you’re trying to build a robot that works more like a human, relying on vision.

This is Matthias Schlitte, who has been dubbed the real-life Popeye due to his gigantic right forearm, and yes, that picture is real.

The 22-year-old German arm-wrestler’s right forearm measures a colossus 18 inches, which makes his left forearm appear small and puney, despite it being quite average.

Matthias has won many champioships, including the Iron Curtain Armwars in Blackburn and the German Championships in Haltern earlier this year.

I’m surprised he doesn’t tilt dramatically to the right when he walks. Despite being perfectly built for an arm wrestler, I’m sure that’s a heavy load to carry when he’s not competing. It’s like a huge swinging sledgehammer.

I have to say, this paintball art is very impressive. It was created by Colombian Pop artist Bon Yurt, and as you can (hopefully) see, it’s a portrait of Marilyn Monroe. Here is a time elapsed video of the paintball painting action.

The RCVLab at Queen’s University demonstrates Deep Green, a pool playing robot, and ARPool, an augmented reality system for teaching the science of pool.

Of course, it does take the fun out of the game, but still a very innovative technology – even if robots are banned from competition.
