Hand From Above is a project by Chris O’Shea. It encourages us to question our normal routine when we often find ourselves rushing from one destination to another. Inspired by Land of the Giants and Goliath, we are reminded of mythical stories by mischievously unleashing a giant hand from the BBC Big Screen. Passers by will be playfully transformed, tickled, stretched, flicked or removed entirely in real-time by a giant deity. What if humans weren’t on top of the food chain?

The Simpsons is giving one lucky contest winner the chance to create their very own Simpsons character which will appear on the show.
The contest, part of the Fox show’s 20th-anniversary celebration, will open Friday and end Oct. 24, and the new Springfield resident will appear in an early 2010 episode featuring Coldplay’s Chris Martin as guest star.
Executive producer Al Jean says online submissions at thesimpsons.com should be “pithy and funny.” Jean will help judge them.
The winner gets a trip to Los Angeles to work with producers and the show’s animation director.
Jean says the contest is a thank-you to loyal “Simpsons” viewers. The top entry will be announced in mid-November.
The contest is open to over 18s only, so let’s get drawing, people!

Real Life Popeye With A Freakishly Big Right Forearm

This is Matthias Schlitte, who has been dubbed the real-life Popeye due to his gigantic right forearm, and yes, that picture is real.
The 22-year-old German arm-wrestler’s right forearm measures a colossus 18 inches, which makes his left forearm appear small and puney, despite it being quite average.
Matthias has won many champioships, including the Iron Curtain Armwars in Blackburn and the German Championships in Haltern earlier this year.
I’m surprised he doesn’t tilt dramatically to the right when he walks. Despite being perfectly built for an arm wrestler, I’m sure that’s a heavy load to carry when he’s not competing. It’s like a huge swinging sledgehammer.

The guys from thefuntheory.com have tried another experiment to, this time, see if people’s attitude towards recycling could be changed by making recycling fun.
They set up a bottle bank ‘arcade’ in one street, and a standard bottle bank in a similar, nearby street. During the period of one evening, the arcade bottle bank was used by nearly one hundred people, whilst the conventional bank was only used twice.
Previously the team had experimented with piano stairs and a never ending trash can, to change people’s attitudes towards other aspects of life.

When Jen returned from a two week vacation, I’m sure she wasn’t expecting this. Her colleagues had filled her cubicle with millions of Game Informer magazines, and then cordoned it off with some plastic wrap. What a bunch of thoughtful guys. I sure hope she likes Game Informer!
