In an effort to keep the streets clean, this trash can was created to make it ‘fun’ for people to put their waste in it. 72 kilos of garbage was put in the bin during one day. That is 41 kilos more than the closest standard trash bin. The simplest things can make a huge difference. A great success!

Brooklyn-based arts collective The Madagascar Institute had tested their home-built jet-powered merry-go-round—they’d just never tested it with people on it. So PM’s Seth Porges volunteered his life and limb (a nearby warning sign warned that it “Could Kill You”) to be the first human ever to take a jet-powered ride on this steam punk-inspired machine. Here is his maiden voyage.

electricity generating backpack

Here is a really neat invention – a backpack that can generate 40 watts just by walking.

The backpack itself is mounted on rails, so it moves up and down when its wearer moves. The movement generates enough electricity to power your gadgets, and the design actually relieves stress from the user.

Women Applying Make-Up Whilst Driving Cause Half A Million Road Crashes

Posted By Ben Goulding, 2 October, 2009 | permalink

make-up whilst driving

There are all sorts of reasons why drivers crash their cars, but one of the more startling statistics is that 500,000 road crashes in Britain have been caused by women applying make-up whilst driving.

A poll of 4,000 women drivers by women’s motor insurer Diamond showed that around on fifth of female motorists confess they have touched up their mascara on the move, whilst three per cent admitted causing a collision when distracted by applying cosmetics.

The results comes a year after the introduction of a new offence of causing death by careless driving which carries a prison sentence of up to two years.
